When you open the black, Kindle shipping box, you see sleek, beautiful perfection!
An owner of the original Fire, I'm perfectly happy with it. I wondered what they could improve, at the $199 price point, that would be significant enough for me to care. WELL. . . . it turns out, quite a lot! I'm not going to talk about any of the "tech specs" because hundreds have spoken of that already and you can read their reviews.
The HD, screen size, duel speakers, lovely glass and beveled sides, give the device a really luxurious feel.
It feels almost like a small version of the iPad.
I have a pretty extensive library of books (I think over 3,000) and a few apps, so when I turned it on, it took a while to load up everything and I thought something was wrong. Also I think initially the Special Offers took a bit to load, now it's VERY fast, smooth and responsive. It seems to be more sensitive than the original. I'm a long time Apple fan and have both iPad1 and iPad3. The touch sensitivity seems the same to me between iPad and the KFHD. I like to use a stylus and I found that when flipping through the carousel the finger worked better, because using the stylus, it would open books that I wasn't trying to open. With practice, I don't see that as being a problem, it's just a lighter touch than the original Fire.
I like the special offers. At first I was annoyed with the "similar to titles you purchased" items at the bottom of the carousel, but then decided I liked it, I have discovered many new book/authors from this feature in the Amazon store, so I've decided that it's a good thing!
Kindle Fire HD, exceeded my expectations and I've very happy with my purchase!
